Mute Swan
- (Cygnus olor) [This species is not on the official Idaho Checklist. At this
time, Mute Swan is considered being either an escaped or released bird in
Idaho. Pam Paterson (Idaho Fish and Game biologist), reported on (17 September
2000, that as many as 4 juvenile Mute Swans were present around Clear Lake,
Gooding County. Pam also comments, "I am seeing more or these birds at many
places. They have established a nesting territory in the Snake River just
upstream of Gridley Bridge." ]

of origin abound for these geese observed outside the Northeastern USA. Indeed,
there are no accepted records of this species in this part of the country.
Barnacle Geese sighted in Idaho are best treated as escaped birds until
compelling evidence suggests otherwise.]
