DESCRIPTION:
Columbiformes. Looked like a mourning dove but larger,
rounded tail with white band, no dark spots on back, white band on wings
BEHAVIOR:
Fed on the ground below bird feeder. Made sound
described in field guides - "who cooks for you". Generally ignored other
sparrows and finches at feeder and on ground,

POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
June 17, 2006. White band on tail and wings, and calling was different.
Confirmation by Terry Rich, FWS, Partners in Flight.
HOW DID YOU
ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?
Mourning dove. Larger
size, white band on tail and wings, no black markings on back. Tail was rounded
compared to mourning dove.

SPECIES):
None with this. We have mourning doves daily in our
backyard
