Dear fellow birder:

Today a White Winged Dove came to our back yard feeder. He hung around long enough for my father, Donnell Hunter, and experienced birder, to come by and concur. He's spent a lot of time in Mexico and Central America and knows these doves well. At first I thought it was a Eurasion Collared Dove we've been seeing in Roberts, because of the wide white band and shape of the tail. I noticed however that he didn't have a collar. Then I noticed the distinctly stricking white edge on the wing.

Sincerely, Mike Hunter

I realized I forgot to tell you where this dove appeared. We live in a little community called Labelle, just Northeast of Rigby, ID.

On Monday, 5 June, several more folks stopped by to see the dove. Three of them were actually able to, including Cliff Wiess whom perhaps you know. Dr. Jay Carlisle who's been conducting a banding project at Camas Nat. Wildlife Refuge came by with a couple of his staff in the afternoon, but unfortunately the dove didn't show up again. Since then I've spent very little time at home, and have not seen the dove again.

Sincerely, Mike Hunter

I was able to get a photo - not very good, but here it is. Daren Clark took some better ones. He came over this evening and after waiting for over an hour, he finally got to see it.

Sincerely, Mike Hunter
