White-tailed Ptarmigan

Complete on 1st Round -- 7 Accept, 0 Reject

###############

Shirley Sturts -- Accept

An all white grouse couldn't be mixed up with other grouse found in this area. Also, the comments by Earl Chapin on the presence of this species in the Selkirks.

###############

Chuck Trost -- Accept

Adequate (barely) description, but a tame grouse, social, and color are hard to mix up with anything else.

###############

Dave Trochlell -- Accept

This brief, but adequate description could only apply to a White-tailed Ptarmigan.

###############

Cliff Weisse -- Accept

Description is sufficient to confirm identification of White-tailed Ptarmigan and rules out other Ptarmigans.

###############

Carlisle -- Accept

Report not very detailed but white tail critical and, in light of commentary on the species' occurrence in N Idaho by Chapin, the sighting seems likely to be true.

###############

Charles Swift -- Accept

Brief description but all white grouse couldn't be anything except a Ptarmagin. White-tailed Ptarmagin is the obvious choice. Other ptarmagin should be investigated for extralimital reports although this should not prevent acceptance of these Idaho birds as White-tailed. (It would of course also be useful to have some breeding season records.)

###############

Dumroese -- Accept

Barely sufficient details.
