Shirley Sturts -- Accept

Going with Jay's comments )"but very unexpected, especially in spring) Bristle-thighed Curlew but the birds observed lacked the buffy tones of a Bristle-thighed." ) I will stay with my first vote - to Accept.

Chuck Trost -- Accept

Good description, seen by MOB, photo adequate.

chuck trost -- Accept

Good description, but bill looked a bit long in the photo. Still, multiple observers, and comparison with LBCU are enough to convince me.

Carlisle -- Accept

Good description and sufficient photo (and I saw the birds soon after Bob found them). Report did not consider the more similar (but very unexpected, especially in spring) Bristle-thighed Curlew but the birds observed lacked the buffy tones of a Bristle-thighed.

Cliff Weisse -- Accept

Description and photo sufficient to confirm the ID of Whimbrel.

Cliff Weisse -- Accept

Although the description and photo do not rule out Bristle-thighed Curlew additional comments from Jay Carlisle, specifically "the birds observed lacked the buffy tones of a Bristle-thighed", as well as my personal observation of the birds soon after being located by Bob Davis, are enough to rule out that possibility. I will add that Bristle-thighed Curlew was discussed, and ruled out, during the observation on 5/5/06 because no bright buffy tones were present on the bird.

The documentation (especially Cliff's image) offered here compelling supports acceptance of this record.

I accept this candidate as a record with no reservations.

dumroese -- Reject, specific identification not established

Yes, this is probably a Whimbrel. But, the written report doesn't give me any reason to rule out Bristle-thighed, and the rump, lower breast, and underside cannot be seen in the photo.

Hardy -- Accept

From the voting comments I see that Jay, as an additional observer, has addressed Kas's concerns about ruling out Bristle-thighed Curlew, so I can clearly vote to accept in Kas's stead.

Charles Swift -- Accept

Accept (technically the description and photo do not eliminate Bristle-thighed Curlew although that species can be fairly safely eliminated on the basis of range).

Charles Swift -- Accept

I'm voting to accept again.
