LOCALITY OF OBSERVATION:
About half way between St.Anthony and Sand Creek Ponds on the Sand Creek Road

Sagebrush
 
CONDITIONS:
about 10 minutes,
The wind was calm with some clouds.  It was observed and pictures taken in mid afternoon.  I took two pictures with a Nikon D80 with a 200mm lens

Yes, another day after the observation

DESCRIPTION:  
Diurnal Raptor - I submitted the photos to Cliff Weise.
 
BEHAVIOR:  
 

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
When I sent the pictures to Cliff Weise - he identified the bird.

 
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?
I thought it might have been a Harlan, but I thought it was a Swainson's and Cliff confirmed that.
 
EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES):
I have observed them further west (about 50 miles) during the summer.
 
GENERAL BIRDING EXPERIENCE:  
 I have been birding seriously for about three years.
