The snowy owl was hit by a vehicle near the I-84/I-86 Junction east of Burley sometime before yesterday morning. I received a call yesterday (12/13/2011) from a motorist reporting a snowy owl along the interstate. The owl was collected at 292013, 4716103 (NAD83 Zone 12 UTM). As mentioned below, it had 2 broken wings as well as internal injuries and could not be saved. > > > >

Photos were taken on 12/13 by Jerome Hansen (IDFG Regional Supervisor) while injuries to the animal were being assessed by Conservation Officer Tim Ferguson and myself. Tim is holding the owl in the images and has a considerable amount of experience with rehabilitation of injured raptors.
