Earl convinced me they were dowitchers but unfortunately he didn't give further details for telling Short-billed from Long-billed Dowitchers.

There is no description of the birds and no attempt to separate them from Long-billed Dowitcher. Further the date is late for Short-billed Dowitcher.

Even though held in the hand, the description was not adequate to separate from a LBDO.

Report does not address or eliminate Long-billed Dowitcher (the most likely of the 2). If this is a specimen is it in a collection somewhere?? Presumably basic plumage SB Dowitcher can be identified in the hand but report does not address if this was done.
