With the distictive markings on this shorebird, it would be hard to mix it up with other shorebirds, especially when still in breeding plumage. The description of the orange, black and white patterning and orange legs convinced me. According to the guides an adult could still be in breeding plumage on September 1, although looking worn as the observer mentioned.

Written description includes excellent detail of black and rusty pattern of upperparts and facial pattern that are very distinctive and diagnostic of breeding Ruddy Turnstone.

This report describes an adult Ruddy Turnstone in near-breeding condition, and was convincing enough for me.

chuck trost -- Accept

description adequate, if minimal as to date and time. But the orange legs and vack color are hard to mix up.
