7/15/09 There isn’t enough detail in the description to be conclusive. A dark gray mantle doesn’t seem to fit any ago of Ruddy Turnstone. |
10/4/09
I'm still not convinced that the limited description in the report eliminates other possibilities. |

Though the written description isn't terribly detailed, the key features are addressed for an easy-to-identify species. |

I do agree with others that the description is pretty light, but I still believe Ruddy Turnstone to be the only bird with the combination of dark marks on face (subjective I know), a dark bib, and orange legs and feet. I may be biased because I saw the bird though. |

I'm guessing that the bird reported here was truly a RUTU, but the rare bird report description wasn't thorough enough for me. In particular, there's no mention of the turnstone's obvious and unique bill shape, nor were any other shorebird species competed. |

I'm still unconvinced. |

Orange legs and habitat diagnostic. |

The black the white head and bib with orange legs is diagnostic. |

I'm staying with my first vote for the same reasons. |

Convincing description |

I agree with Cliff & Dave's reservation (esp regarding the need for some structural details) but am still convinced that this was a Ruddy. |

This combination of features could only belong to a Ruddy Turnstone. |

No doubt the report could have been more detailed but in my mind the combination of features reported could only belong to a Ruddy Turnstone. |
