Given the right look, separating female Black-headed and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks should be fairly straight forward. The written description along with the photographs supports this identification.

While the call note difference between Rose-breasted (Pheucticus ludovicianus) and Black-headed Grosbeaks (P. melanocephalus) is interesting, I’m not sure it is significant as a distinguishing character. The description in this report is a little light though key points are noted and support a decent photograph.
