bird was obseved for approximately 5 minutes on two occasions.

DESCRIPTION:
Black head and back, dark eye
White underside with red triangle on breast. White patches in wings prominant in flight and readily visible when perched. Ivory colored bill is very large and triangular shaped.
BEHAVIOR:
Bird was feeding on black oil sunflower. Twice took flightinto large trees nearby. Has not yet returned after 2nd departure.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
Markings are distinctive for this species. Black head and back with red triangle on white underside does not occur in any other North American species
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?
Markings are so distinctive they is no very similiar. Spotted Towhee may be closest and it has very different beak. Red color is on on sides no the breast.
EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES):
Very limited I have seen only one other inidvidual of this species.
