The description is very good and the observer has experience with the species. Given the rarity of this species and the fact that it's a single observer record I feel we should put in on the hypothetical list for now. |

I wish to accept this record as "Hypothetical". |

The report includes a good description and the observer ia familiar with the species. However, as a first state record we need a photograph or a 2nd observer for full acceptance. Therefore, I vote to accept this record as Hypothetical. |

The description sounds great. I just need a bit more for an accepted first record. Hypothetical is probably the best vote for now. |

After carefully reading Gerstell's report again, the bill color and neck color, plus the eye color and size - all seen from close range, I do not know what else this could have been. I do know that he was a careful observer, and conducted colonial waterbird surveys for me throughout the state. He knew his birds. |

My vote to accept is conditional on this record being placed on the "hypothetical" list. |

This was a very difficult decision for me. Although I thought that the observer's description of the bird was very good, Reddish Egret is a salt water wader from the Gulf Coast and Gulf of Mexico, and that makes a report of this species from eastern Idaho seem quite incredible. After doing a bit of research, though, I finally decided to accept the record. I reviewed the three accepted Reddish Egret records from Utah, all of which were documented by adequate photos. Two of these records were from Tooele and Juab Counties, which are not that far from southern Idaho. I guess my review of these two northern Utah records made me feel think that a Reddish Egret at A.F.R. might indeed be possible. |

I'm going to "bow to the majority" of the Committee on this one and change my vote to reject, though I still feel like there's good possibility that the bird was correctly identified as a Reddish Egret. |

I vote to accept this record as hypothetical and to add it to the state list as such. The description fits that of an easy to identify bird. Dan Svingen in the 1993 voting session makes a strong case for accepting this record as hypothetical. Our bylaws state: First state record submissions that involve only a single observer may be accepted as hypothetical and added to the Checklist of Idaho Birds as such. Species shall remain on the hypothetical list until a report meeting the above criteria is accepted by the Committee" |

I'm stying with my first vote - to accept it as hypothetical. |

The description sounds perfect. The date does seem a bit early, but not impossibly so. My only hesitation is that this would represent a first state record and that it is a single observer record with no photographs or other documentation. |

I still go with my original thoughts. |

I know that Tay was an excellent observer, but still feel uneasy about accepting this for a first state record. |

This is a careful description of a Reddish Egret, but I am reluctant to accept single observer reports for a first state record unless accompanied by photographs. |
2-25-10 This is my vote to accept as hypothetical the Reddish Egret 4-A-93 record |

sounds good but do we need more (details, observers, a photo) for a 1st record? |
2-25-10 Can we go with hypothetical? |
