Similar hawk species were eliminat4ed. The observer is experienced with this and other hawk species. |

I'm staying with my first round vote for the same reasons. |

Description and behavior are sufficient to confirm the identification of Red-shouldered Hawk. |

Although Broad-winged Hawk was not considered in the report I feel the species is eliminated by the rectangular wing shape and pale crescents in the primaries. |

A brief encounter with an immature Buteo, in less than favorable conditions, is always a tough call. This bird’s apparent size, finely barred tail, and pale primary crescents strongly suggest a Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus), however, I would have liked to see more consideration in the report paid to elimination of Broad-winged (B. platypterus) to accept at this stage. |

Considering observer experience, and comments from the remainder of the committee, I’m confident enough to overturn my previous reject vote to accept. |

I thought the description eliminated similar contenders, and the describer's past experience with the species added assurance. |

I'm still convinced. |

The wing beat, crescents in the wings, and tail pattern all sound good to me. |

I'm still convinced this is what it was. |

The described behavior and crescent-shaped wing panels are convincing. |

October 2010 Though not a perfect sighting, the description does support Red-shouldered Hawk and eliminates similar species. |
