I'm convinced that Dan and John got this identification correct, and I must also report that I saw and heard many of the same characterisics of the bird (or birds) that they reported.

Gatchet states that he is familiar with eastern RSHA, and describes 4 diagnostic features: lack of patagial bars and belly band, pale crescents on wings, and the banded tail. The features noted in Svingen's thorough report - lack of patagial bars, checkered dorsal flight feathers, tail bands, combined with the vocalizations and behavior - are a convincing description of RSHA.

There is nothing to preclude these two reports from describing the same bird, though observers had the impression that there were possibly two birds.
