DESCRIPTION:

phalaropes, shorebirds,
Reddish overall, bill fairly short and thick compared to nearby Wilson's Phalarope.
Appears to be in late stages of molt to alternate plumage.

BEHAVIOR:

swimming, wading in shallow weedy water.
near, but not close to three Wilson's

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?

At first thought a male Red-necked Phalarope-Sibley's does not show much on the drab male phalaropes.
Posted photos on inland birder net and asked for opinions.
responses all Red Phalarope.

HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?

swimming unlike other shorebirds.
Too red on underparts for Red-necked

EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES):

Have seen many Wilson's and Red-necked Phalaropes
