| 04-24-2007. Shirley Sturts -- Accept There isn't much description in the report but the pictures are good. I don't know what else it would be. |
06-22-2007. Sturts -- Accept I'm staying with my first vote for the same reasons - good photo |
| 4/25/07. Cliff Weisse -- Accept Although there is no written description the photos are sufficient to confirm the ID of Purple Martin. |
7/3/2007. Cliff Weisse -- Accept Dave raises a good point about the documentation in his first round comments. After reading the addendum provided by Shirley I'm comfortable with the documentation. |
| 04-28-2007. Dave Trochlell -- Reject, natural occurrence questionable There are some problems with the documentation offered here that should be reconciled before we vote again on this record. First of all, we don't have any description of the Purple Martins, and we don't know who wrote the communication about them. That's not good! Secondly, and perhaps just as importantly, although we have fine photos of a male Purple Martin entering a snag, we don't really know where these photos were taken. I think we need to table (reject) this potential record for now and then try to contact some of the observers mentioned in the letter. Even though the sightings occurred well over 30 years ago, perhaps we'll get lucky and find someone who remembers the martins and can vouch for the photos. |
06-30-2007. Dave Trochlell -- Accept Shirley's addendum information resolves the problems I'd noted in my first vote to reject, so now I can accept this record in good conscience. |
| 3 May 2007. Hardy -- Accept Only the top 25% of the bird can be seen in the photo, and the overall dark plumage, dark eye and dark bill is consistent with male Purple Martin. The habitat is spot-on for a cavity-nester. Also the bill size and curved culmen is right for martin. Observer is aware that this is an unusual species. I would feel better if we knew the reporter's name and had some written description. |
1 July 2007. Hardy -- Accept Dave and Cliff's questions of provenance are cleared up by Shirley's addendum. |
| 05-05-2007. Carlisle -- Accept looks good |
6-30-07. Carlisle -- Accept additional info helps |
| 05-06-2007. chuck trost -- Accept Although there was no real description of the bird(s), the photos were quite adequate to eliminate any other species as far as I'm concerned. |
07-02-2007. chuck trost -- Accept photos fairly convincing to me. |
| 5/21/07. Charles Swift -- Accept The photo seems pretty clearly to be a male Purple Martin. A bit more of a description and identity of observer would be helpful but photo is sufficient. |
7/7/06. Charles Swift -- Accept Additional information provided by Shirley strengthens the record. |
