Weisse – Accept

The description is sufficient to confirm the identification of Purple Finch.

Cliff Weisse--Accept

I'm still convinced that the suite of field marks reported is conclusive.

Those include:
-Uniform red head with no obvious patterning
-Small bill, similar to House Finch
-no white around eye
-did not show a crest

Sturts --Accept

The red exteding down the neck I believe is diagnostic in the male Purple Finch. The Cassin's and House Finch are both elminated in the report.

I'm staying with my first round vote for the same reasons.

To me there's not quite enough to go on to accept this record. It is an intriguing record though.

After re-reading the report and studying resources I'm convinced the bird described is a Purple Finch

The only real field mark was the amount of red on this bird. No mention of bill shape, under-tail coverts, or calls. The observer seems quite familiar with CAFI, so i gve the benefit of doubt.

I'm switching my vote because the description just is not adequate to separate this bird from a CAFI. What was the bill shape? did it make flight calls?

Dave Trochlell--Accept

This was not an easy decision for me, but I decided to accept the record because the report mentions at least one key field mark for Purple Finch. That said, a more detailed description of the bird would've made this vote a lot easier.

I'm going to vote to accept this one again for reasons mentioned in the first vote.

Hardy--Accept

Size, lack of streaking on breast, red color pattern on head, all consistent with PUFI and eliminate the other possible finches.

Hardy--Accept

Same comments as first round, plus I will note that I was also convinced by the reporter's self-described experience with searching for PUFI amongst other finches.

Charles Swift--Reject, specific identification not established

This is an interesting report but not quite detailed enough to convince me it's a Purple. In particular back color/pattern and bill shape would have been helpful. With the difficulty in separating Purple and Cassin's Finch and uncertain status of the former in the state I feel we need more detail to accept this species than this report provides.

Charles Swift--Reject, specific identification not established

I remain unconvinced and will stick with my previous comments and vote to reject again.
