This is a very detailed report. Diagnostic field marks were noted and the similar Parasitic Jaeger was elminated by size, bulk of body, and shape of tail.

This decription makes a good case for POJA, and does a fine job of differentiating this species from either PAJA or LTJA.

Description includes sufficient field marks to confirm the ID of Pomarine Jaeger, especially size, bill color, shape, and extent of black cap.

I hesitated to accept this record because the reporter was uncertain of several diagnostic fieldmarks, namely the dark/light of the bill, and the spoon-shaped tail streamers. But I was convinced by the overall size and bulk of the bird - described as one-quarter larger than a RBGU - and by the comparison offered by viewing a Parasitic Jaeger only minutes before. (It would have been nice to see a description of the PAJA, too.)

Careful description of a large gull-like bird. Tail shape is diagnostic.

My main concern is the distance at which this bird was observed. However, the adult tail tips should separate from other jaegers.

This was a well-written record. It was especially helpful that the observer had Ring-billed Gulls for a size comparison as well as a Parasitic Jaeger to compare.
