Approximately one minute. Flew before camera could be retrieved.
Strong winds blew from west, east and south.
Viewed through back door.

DESCRIPTION:
Bright blue head, red breast, green markings. Brilliant colors.
BEHAVIOR:
He was eating. Observation time for behavior was limited.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
Immediately, we looked in our bird reference book. The number of bright colors, his bright blue head, red breast were unmistakable.
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?
No other were as strikingly colored as the Painted Bunting. Determination was easy.
EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES):
We enjoy feeding finch. Various birds feed and often a stranger will visit. We're pleasure bird watchers - not experts. Didn't need to have expertise to identify this beauty.
