| 010-03-2007. Shirley Sturts -- Reject, specific identification not established Not enough detail in the description or field marks used in eliminating the Parasitic amd Pomarime Jaeger |
06-08-2008. Sturts -- Reject, specific identification not established I'm staying with my first round vote for the same reasons. |
| 10/4/2007. Cliff Weisse -- Reject, specific identification not established The description falls short of being conclusive. The expected jaeger in summer in the interior west is adult Pomarine (most or all interior records during summer are adult Poms - Tony Leukering [@ Colorado Bird Observatory] personal comments), which this description doesn't eliminate. In fact I feel it fits Pomarine better than Long-tailed. The bird is said to be an adult and the mantle shade is described as dark brown. Adult LT Jaeger has a paler gray mantle while Pom has a brown mantle. Tail length on Pomarine is also long (up to 6.5 inches just for the extension of the central rects beyond the tail if I read the sizes in Sibley correctly). At the very least Pomarine can not be ruled out here. |
11-16-2008 Cliff Weisse -- Reject, specific identification not established, Same comments |
| 010-05-2007. Dave Trochlell -- Reject, specific identification not established I'd bet that the reporter actually did see a dark morph juvenile Long-tailed Jaeger. In fact, the date of this sighting provides circumstantial evidence supporting his identification, since inland LTJAs usually arrive in late summer or very early fall. But other than mentioning the bird's long tail, this report lacks any definitive information about this species, such as a description of bird's primary shafts, head and bill shape, uppertail and undertail barring, etc. |
11-21-2008. Dave Trochlell -- Reject, specific identification not established As I said in my first vote, this report lacks any definitive information about this species, such as a description of bird's primary shafts, head and bill shape, uppertail and undertail barring, etc. |
| 21 October 2007. Hardy -- Accept Description adequate, emphasizes the smaller and slenderer shape relative to the other 2 jaeger species. |
30 November 2008. Hardy -- Reject, specific identification not established I am changing my vote from the first round, because although the distinct cap, slender build and long tail suggest LTJA, I agree with Cliff's point about the tail. This report did not describe anything about the tail other than it was very long. |
| 11-04-2007. Carlisle -- Accept Described several important features of an adult jaeger and the long streamers rule out the other 2 species. |
11-25-08. Carlisle -- Accept No change from prior comments |
| 11-11-2007. chuck trost -- Accept The season seems wrong, but the description of the tail length and size and coloration leave little doubt in my mind as to the correct ID. |
11-20-2008. chuck trost -- Reject, specific identification not established I'm changing my vote because of the season and the lack of an adequate description. |
| 13 Nov 2007. Darren Clark -- Accept The report seems to accurately describe an adult Long-tailed Jaeger. The timing seems early, but everything else seems to fit. |
11-18-2008. Darren Clark -- Reject, specific identification not established After re-reading the report and voting comments, I agree that the report does not eliminate Pomarine Jaeger, therefore I'm changing my vote. |
