This bird was clearly a juvenile Long-tailed Jaeger, thanks to excellent documentation by the IBO staff.

The written report lacks a description of the bird but the in-hand photos show field marks consistent with Long-tailed Jaeger including white shafts restricted to P9 & P10, bill structure, pluage pattern and head shape.

Excellent photos of bird in hand - shows half dark, short bill, "cold" coloring, white shafts of two outermost primaries.

I'll vote on this as I'm working on these (perhaps Jay has deferred since his name is on the report). This is clearly a LT Jaeger thanks to the excellent photos and written description. [It's also quite a bizarre record but then isn't there also a Skua record for Hawk Mountain, NJ??]
