Written description could be more detailed but the photos are good.  Despite its rarity and the difficulty in identifying Iceland Gull I have no reservations about this record.

Description and photos are convincing. Similar gulls are considered and eliminated.

I'm convinced this was an adult Kumlien's ICGU.

The head shape, wing length and pattern at tip all seem to point to Iceland adult. But the size bothered me a bit - it didn't seem any larger than the nearby California Gulls. Im my limited experience, Iclands are larger and bulkier than CAGU. But it may be a sexual size thing. Nevertheless, it certainly doesn't look like a Thayer's to me.

Description of plumage and structure sufficient for identification.

Well described gull with good photos. The discussion of primary coloration coupled with the photographs indicates to me that this bird was an Iceland Gull (Larus glaucoides ssp.), and probably a Kumlien’s (L.g. kumlieni) which you would expect. In addition, I believe the first two photos illustrate fairly classic structure for this species - barrel chest, short bill (~˝ head length), very round head, and long primary extension. These first two shots also show the “silvery” quality of the mantel and upper wings I associate with adult Iceland’s. Neat bird!

Description and photographs (especially) look good and support the identification.
