HABITAT: open water in large river
CONDITIONS: 20 minutes clear, cold (35deg) calm 100-200 yards sun overhead Zeiss 10x40 Canon 50D DSLR w/ Canon 400mm L lens

WHAT GUIDE(S) OR REFERENCE(S) DID YOU CONSULT?: The Sibley Guide to Birds-David Sibley Gulls of the Americas Howell/Dunn

DESCRIPTION: Gulls, White-headed Large white gull w/ white primaries- no dark mantle mottled brown streaking on head, body and undersides dark eye heavy two-toned pinkish bill w/ black tip

BEHAVIOR: Was with 150-200 mixed group of California and Ring-billed Gulls and one Imm Herring Gull Was in water and flew on two occcasions.

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU? ID'd right away due to overall white coloring and size
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY? Much larger than Ring-billed and Califonia's No dark mantle or overall brown color as Herring, Thayer's or Western Primaries whiter than same age Glaucous-winged. Much larger and heavier billed than Iceland
