Record #: 7-B-92
Garganey
SEND FOR 2nd ROUND: 6 Accept, 1 Reject (natural occurrence)
###############
Shirley Sturts -- Accept
Well Documented by 3 very experience
birders. Pat Cole is an ecologist with Idaho Fish and Game and has
a lot
of waterfowl experience banding and doing surveys in this area.
###############
Chuck Trost -- Accept
multiple observers, good
s\descriptions
###############
Dave Trochlell -- Accept
Although there'll always be questions
about the wild providence of any beautiful exotic duck species, I vote to
accept this one as a record. The submitted descriptions were good.
###############
Cliff Weisse -- Accept
Descriptions by all observers is
consistent with the identification of Garganey and there is nothing that
suggests other species.
###############
Carlisle -- Reject, natural occurrence questionable
The written
descriptions by multiple observers over a span of 5 days are quite convincing
and detail important field marks for identification of a male Garganey.
My only concern is the origin of the bird. What are the chances that this
bird is a truly wild bird (as opposed to once released or escaped from
captivity)? How would we know?
###############
Charles Swift -- Accept
Good descriptions from multiple
observers. Distinctive head stripe is diagnostic for this species.
###############
Dumroese -- Accept
The three reports combined provide a very
good description.
