Rolland Cox (had not seen)let me know that Oldtown residents had strange bird at feeder.

(town is only about 24 square blocks)

CONDITIONS:
Watched at least 15 minutes on 2 different days. Overcast, 35degrees F., distance to bird 40 ft.,Pentax 8X40 binocs

DESCRIPTION:

BEHAVIOR: 
Moving between 2 yard feeders about 2 blocks apart.  Using unique low-pitched call, no song heard. Flies like other doves
 
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
Have seen it many times before, in Nebraska since 2005 and 2 or 3 times in WA state.  Black collar, squared-off tail, nasal,low pitch call.
 
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?
Mourning dove only other likely.  No pointed tail, or unmarked neck. Larger than M.dove,darkish grey.  Too dark for ringed turtle-dove.Unique call.
 
EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES):  
 Have watched every winter in west. Nebraska for last 4 years, when visiting relatives. Seen in Colville, WA and in Columbia Basin, WA
 
GENERAL BIRDING EXPERIENCE:  
 Mildly fanatic for 33 years.  You can blame Shirley Sturtz.  2 BBS routes for 20 yrs.  Expert on local birds, but don't do lots of long-distance travel.
