Shirley Sturts -- Accept

Although it was a brief view, the observer is very familiar with this species.

I still feel the birds reported are very likely the Eurasian Collared-Dove. However, I am changing my vote to reject this record because the Ringed Turtle-dove is not ruled out.

Chuck Trost -- Accept

There is a sizeable population of this species in the area, and I have never seen a Ringed-turtle Dove there. The description fits ECDO.

I have seen ringed turtle doves in Pocatello, but never in the American Falls area. I'm convinced that Stacy would have noticed the difference, and the eurasian collared dove is common at this location.

I think both birds reported were likely Eurasian Collared-Doves but field marks necessary to eliminate the very similar Ringed Turtle-Dove are not included in the description, as per comments by the observer in the report.

I believe that Stacy saw Eurasian Collared-Doves, but unfortunately his account does not adequately differentiate this record candidate from Ringed Turtle-Dove. Specifically, his description lacks a description of the dove's primaries and undertail coverts.

EUCD reports must adequately differentiate candidates from the similar African Collared-Dove. This one doesn't. Specifically, the report doesn't describe the dove's primaries and undertail coverts.

As Charles has pointed out, "Some of these accounts do not completely eliminate Ringed Turtle-Dove as possibilities but obviously ECDO is the likely suspect." This makes the voting tough when all fieldmarks are not seen or noted.

Charles Swift -- Accept

Some of these accounts do not completely eliminate Ringed Turtle-Dove as possibilities but obviously E. Collared-Dove is the likely suspect and widely reported in southeastern Idaho in this time frame.

I'll go along with others but still feel this is very likely a EUCD, probably among the vanguard in e. Idaho and now well documented as being established in the area.

This report caused me pause. If I sorta, kinda read between the lines, I think the observer saw a ECDO. But, portions of the description (ie, darker, terminal tail band) don't jive for me for ECDO. I'm wondering if the written description was just written quickly and inaccurately. Anyway, I think we will have many more ECDO reports in the future and I don't think this one is particularly strong.

Fieldmarks necessary to distinguish from similar Ringed Turtle-Dove were not noted.
