CONDITIONS:

I have been checking for other birds in the neighborhood daily since 12/21/2008 and observe these 5 doves daily. I have taken many photos of these birds and will be sending one after completing this form. Observed with Binoculars and a 30X Digital Camera.

DID YOU TAKE NOTES?:

No, not at all

DID YOU CONSULT FIELD GUIDE OR OTHER REFERENCES?:

Yes, another day after the observation

WHAT GUIDE(S) OR REFERENCE(S) DID YOU CONSULT?:

The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Western North America.

DESCRIPTION:

Doves "Streptopelia decaocto.
It is obvious that they are doves. The birds are light in color with a dark neck-ring. Have dark primaries and a square long white tipped tail with black outer web. Appear somewhat larger than a Mourning Dove.

BEHAVIOR:

These birds have been in an open tree and often come to the ground to pick up spilled birdfood from the ground under feeders. Have not heard these birds. Other birds such as finch, sparrows and flickers do not bother these birds when they land next to them or are feeding on the ground when the are doing the same.

HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?

I have been watching this species since they were first found in this area 1.5 years ago and have photographed them many times.

HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?

Have seen these birds daily for 3 weeks and have been observing this species regularly since they were first found in the summer of 2007.

EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES):

Very familiar with these birds by tracking them in the county for 1.5 years.

GENERAL BIRDING EXPERIENCE:

Been birding for the past 10 years and lead field trips for Palouse Audubon and Canyon Birders and feel I know the birds in this area quite well.

WERE PHOTO(S), VIDEO, AND/OR AUDIO OBTAINED BY YOU?:
