Description: From my notes: No vertical white stripe, just a v. visible horizontal stripe. Head looked darker.

Behavior: From my notes: Very clear view of one male in a group of 5 GWTE. Group flew in, then left after 30 seconds.

How and when did you positively identify the bird, and what clinched the identification for you?

I recognized it as a Common Teal when I saw it. I had been looking over Green-winged Teal for years to find a Common Teal.

How did you eliminate similar species, and what were they? I have seen male Green-winged Teal with a bit of a white horizontal line, but always in addition to the diagnostic vertical white stripe on the side. This bird had no vertical stripe, as seen on the water and in flight.

Experience with this species (and similar species): We had seen a "Common Teal" at the Pack River delta on a CdA Audubon field trip earlier in the year. This bird had been located previously by ? The view was distant and unsatisfactory.

General birding experience: intermediate
