LOCALITY OF OBSERVATION: Genesee Sewage Pond. sw of Genesee Idaho in Nez Perce County on the county line with Latah County.

WHAT GUIDE(S) OR REFERENCE(S) DID YOU CONSULT?: I looked at field guides once home from work that evening. The Sibley Guide to Birds.
DESCRIPTION: Geesem Swans and Ducks Small Goose.
BEHAVIOR: This bird was not close to the Canada Geese but stayed close by.
HOW AND WHEN DID YOU POSITIVELY IDENTIFY THE BIRD, AND WHAT CLINCHED THE IDENTIFICATION FOR YOU?
This bird was a very small goose with a very short bill with a very short neck and small round head. This bird also had a very dary breast and with no sun was unable to see the purplish color.
HOW DID YOU ELIMINATE SIMILAR SPECIES, AND WHAT WERE THEY?
The size of the bird and the small short bill and short neck and very dark breast.
EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SPECIES (AND SIMILAR SPECIES): This was only the third or fourth bird of this species that I had seen.
GENERAL BIRDING EXPERIENCE:
Been an active birder for 4-5 years leading birding field trips for Palouse Audubon and and Canyon birders for the past 3 years.
