| 06-12-2007. Shirley Sturts -- Accept Description fits that of a Cackling Goose |
08-03-2007. Sturts -- Reject, specific identification not established I'm going to agree with Lisa that we can, for now anyway, only reliably identify the subspecies minima. This bird was described as being larger than a Mallard. |
| 6/13/07. Cliff Weisse -- Accept Brief description would have been helped by inclusion of bill shape along with bill size but is sufficient to confirm the identification of Cackling Goose. Observer demonstrates firm understanding of key ID points in reports submitted with photographic documentation, including IBRC #67-B-06 and 4-B-07. |
8/4/07. Cliff Weisse -- Accept Again, bill shape would be helpful but the other field marks presented are sufficient to confirm the identification of Cackling Goose. |
| 06-16-2007. Dave Trochlell -- Accept I'd surely love to observe a Cackling Goose from 20 feet, as Jay did! Good report! |
08-16-2007. Dave Trochlell -- Accept I'm going to hold with my previous vote of acceptance, thanks to Jay's convincing description. |
| 25 June 2007. Darren Clark -- Accept The description is good. |
5 Aug 2007. Darren Clark -- Accept I still accept. |
| 1 July 2007. Hardy -- Reject, specific identification not established From reading the literature, it is my understanding that reliable field identification of Cackling Goose is possible only in the case of the minima subspecies. There is also the issue of whether a wild Cackling Goose would be found feeding tamely in a city park. CACG are commonly raised in captivity. |
9 August 2007. Hardy -- Reject, specific identification not established This report is not sufficient to distinguish CACG from the smaller subspecies of CANG. Indeed, Carlisle suggests the bird may be a taverneri, the subspecies of CACG most problematic to distinguish from CANG. |
| 07-02-2007. chuck trost -- Accept Good description. |
08-07-2007. chuck trost -- Accept Good description of head shape and size, bill size, and comparison with nearby canada geese. |
| 7/7/06. Charles Swift -- Accept Bill and head structure appear to be sufficient to separate taverneri from parvipes. |
8/23/07. Charles Swift -- Accept See round 1 comment. |
