The report is thorough and convincing and the subspecies section in particular is excellent. The bird in question is clearly a Cackling Goose.

Regarding subspecies I wish there was inclusion of the black band below the white neck collar and/or a gular stripe (or mention of lacking these field marks) but the combination of broad white neck collar, size and shape similar to taverneri, rounder crown than taverneri, and extremely dark underparts strongly suggest B.h. leucopareia and I'm convinced that this individual was of the subspecies.

Excellent descriptions differentiating between the subspecies present in Cougar Bay.

Size and bill shape sound good, white neck patch sounds right fpor this subspecies.

This was an excellent and convincing report for Cackling Goose, though I'm not necessarily convinced that the bird was a leucopareia subspecies.
