Given the many vagrancy records of Brown Pelican throughout the U.S., it's a wonder that the species hasn't strayed to Idaho many times before.

Despite the bird's seemingly tameness, I'm convinced it was a natural stray from the Pacific Coast.

The identification is convincing; the provenance is debatable. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I think it reasonable that this is a wild bird. I look forward to the comments from the first round, esp. having to do with the likelihood of an escaped captive.

I think Doug makes a good case for the presence of the Brown Pelican on Hauser Lake being a natural occurrence.

There is no doubt about the identity. The only question I have is the origin. I'm not especially bothered by the relative tameness of this bird, as I agree that brown pelicans on the coast become very tame around fishermen.
