09-08-2006. Shirley Sturts -- Accept No other hawk matches the field marks Mr. Oar provided. The observer is very familiar with the species having handled them during banding operations |
05-28-2007. Shirley Sturts -- Accept I staying with my 1st round vote for the same reasons. |
|
09-11-2006. Chuck Trost -- Accept Description fairly good, especially the tail banding abd breast color. Jack Oar is an excellent raptor biologist and falconer. Season right. |
06-06-2007. chuck trost -- Accept He said they were small buteos and the tail bands were black and white - this would eliminate accipiters. I believe his sighting. |
|
09-16-2006. Carlisle -- Accept Report skimpy on details of behavior, flight pattern, etc. but convincing on tail, size, and chest pattern. Based on my experience at Lucky Peak (Ada Co.), this species is an annual fall migrant but spring records are likely less common and should be scrutinized more (????). |
06-13-2007. Carlisle -- Accept I still think it's good enough, appropriate timing, etc. |
|
9/19/06. Cliff Weisse -- Accept Although brief the description is sufficient to confirm the identification of Broad-winged Hawk. |
6/6/07. Cliff Weisse -- Accept See first round comments. |

09-24-2006. Dave Trochlell -- Accept The description offered here was incomplete, though adequate and convincing. Few raptor experts can top the experience and knowledge of Jack Oar. |
06-12-2007. Dave Trochlell -- Accept I think the description presented here is minimal, but acceptable. |
|
010-09-2006. dumroese -- Reject, specific identification not established Sketchy details... not much detail on plumage, size, etc. |
27 May 2007. Hardy -- Accept Report is skimpy on detail, but notes the minimum necessary field marks. I am convinced to accept this by the remarks of other committee members that the observer is an experienced raptor biologist. |

10/10/06. Charles Swift -- Reject, specific identification not established The description does not eliminate the 2 smaller accipiters as possibile suspects. The date also seems a bit early for a spring occurrence of this species. Assuming they would be off course migrants, I would think late May would be a more reasonable (aren't there some late spring records for ID?). That 2 were reported does also cause some concern as this is such a rarity in the spring although BWHA do migrate in groups. |
6/26/07. Charles Swift -- Accept Although I still feel a bit uncomfortable about the amount of detail present in this report, I am willing to accept based on the observers experience and field skill as reported by other members of the committee. |
