Not much description but the photo is convincing.

I'm staying with my accept vote for the 2 birds - the one on the left and the one in the center.

Cliff Weisse -- Accept

The photos aren't very good but the are convincing as Brant is distinctive species.

I have not changed my opinion that the photo shows two Brant (two birds on the left).

These are poor photos (or scans??) but the bird on the left is pretty clearly a Brant. I'm willing to accept that the middle one was also a Brant. It does make me a bit uneasy that the right hand bird was also IDed a Brant when it appears not to be.

Carlisle -- Reject, specific identification not established

Not willing to accept, at least on the first run - too few details and the picture does not convince me (low-resolution image doesn't help).

I can see some apparent plumage features consistent with Brant (neck patch on left bird, pale sides, pale uppertail, etc.) but bill shape looks too gradually sloped (on both birds) and bill size looks too big - especially on the left-most bird. However, drawings in Sibley are very inconsistent with regard to bill size & shape... Is there a known population difference in Brant bill size/shape that I am unaware of?

Plus, because there are no details about dates/conditions of observation, behavior, etc., I'm not sure what to make of the fact that three Brants were reported and the 3rd bird is clearly not a Brant.

I'm still not fully convinced and am wishing for more details ....

I seem to remember that the original photo showed more details of the birds, but even in viewing this copy I'm confident that these two birds are Brants.

I'm going to stick with my original vote to accept this record, mainly because I believe that the leftmost and center birds were correctly identified as Black Brants in Dick's original photo.

Photos adequate.

I can understand Jay's complaints, but they still look more like brants to me than anything else.

Photo is not great, but there are not any other good candidate species for the two birds on left than Brant. Head and bill shape, dark and light patterning at waterline and on tail are diagnostic, as is the white collar on the dark throat and breast of the leftmost bird.

Photo is adequate for identification.
