Cliff Weisse -- Reject, specific identification not established

A male Bay-breasted Warbler is distinctive even in fall but the sighting was brief and the bird was not relocated for better views.  This was likely a Bay-breasted Warbler but I’m hesitant to accept the report because of the brief nature of the sighting and the brevity of the description.  I wrote (email) to J Gatchet and asked if he could add anything to the description but received no response.

I’m still not comfortable accepting this record.

Description sufficient for Bay-breasted Warbler in fall plumage

I'm staying with my first round vote for the same reasons.

Although it would have been nice if the observers would have been able to observe the undertail coverts, however, the combination of bold wing bars, greenish upperparts and rusty sides supports Bay-breasted Warbler.

Dave Trochlell--Accept

The description was incomplete and no competing species were discussed, but I thought the enough features of the BBWA were noted to convince me that it could not be any other bird.

I'm still convinced that this was a BBWA, despite some concerns with the incomplete description.

Brief, but adequate description, with wing bars, back color and rusty flanks noted.

Again, brief, but flank color, wing bars, and back and throat color all fit this species.

Hardy--Accept

Adequate description of diagnostic fieldmarks. The rust-colored flanks would be difficult to confuse with anything else.

Carlisle--Accept

Brief but good description ... a description of leg color would have been nice but an adult male, even in fall, is distinctive.
