American Black Duck

Shirley Sturts -- Reject, specific identification not established
There is a good possibility that the identification is correct.
However, the identification is based on only one field mark.
The observer
is experienced with Mallards and other ducks but has no experience with the
American Black Duck.
###############
Chuck Trost -- Reject, specific identification not established
Same comments as for 3-B-89 - not well described.
###############
Dave Trochlell -- Reject, specific identification not established
Mr. McKenzie's description is too brief; it does not contain a physical
description of the bird nor does it rule out other species.
###############
Cliff Weisse -- Reject, specific identification not established
I feel this was probably an American Black Duck but the description does not
conclusively eliminate the possibility of American Black Duck x Mallard.
###############
Carlisle -- Reject, specific identification not established
Note that this 1972 sighting was at Market Lake WMA (not Camas NWR as listed on
master list). As with 3-B-89, I believe that this record is likely correct but
not enough detail was provided - such as time of the year (migration may be a
more likely time for a sighting) as well as specific details of the bird that
were seen.
###############
Charles Swift -- Reject, specific identification not established
Description not sufficient.
(In both of these records it is
highly possible that the observer did see A. Bluck Ducks but the description is
insufficient to establish that. Also interesting to note his report of 2
apparently shot in the 1940's, reported by another IDFG CO).
###############
Dumroese -- Reject, specific identification not established
Very old record lacking specifics except for "all dark." Why not a female
Harlequin?
